Dutch Wine Events
Dutch wine? Yes, it’s a thing!
I’d lived in the Netherlands for around ten years before I found out the country produces wine at all. If that surprises you too, you’re not alone – and if you tasted a Dutch wine years ago and weren’t impressed, I’d urge you to try again. The quality has come on in leaps and bounds over the last decade. This isn’t mass-produced plonk: it’s small-scale, artisanal producers making innovative wines, often from grape varieties you won’t have come across before. You’ll be surprised, I promise you!
What you’ll taste
A typical Dutch wine tasting explores the range of what’s happening in Dutch wine at the moment. My tastings usually include:
- Dutch sparkling wine made in the traditional Champagne method
- Fresh, coastal whites from Zeeland, shaped by salty air and cool breezes
- Lighter, cooler-climate reds alongside richer, more structured examples from Limburg in the south of the Netherlands
- Deliciously different wines made using hybrid grapes, from lesser-known regions like Brabant or Friesland
- Styles that range from crisp and refreshing to textured and food-friendly
I don’t commit to specific producers or bottles in advance; demand for Dutch wine is high, and availability shifts, so I almost always end up pouring something new. It keeps every tasting fresh, even for me.

Private tastings, tailored to you
I host private Dutch wine tastings on location – at your home, office, restaurant/bar or a venue of your choosing – for groups of varying size, with or without food pairings, depending on what you’re after. A few recent examples give you a sense of the range:
- An intimate wine & cheese evening for 10 people at my own dining table, pairing Dutch wines with Dutch cheeses
- A Dutch wine and Indonesian food pairing for 16 people, hosted as part of a cookbook launch
- A Dutch wine tasting hosted on behalf of Coravin Experiences for 20 people, held on a boat cruising the canals of Amsterdam
Whatever the format, my events involve storytelling, not lectures: fun facts, producer stories and plenty of room for questions, whatever your starting level of wine knowledge.
What people say
“What a wonderful and unique wine tasting! Vicky is extremely welcoming, engaging and thoughtful. She selected an exciting range of diverse Dutch wines in different styles, from various regions and producers, along with cheese pairings that I’ll be dreaming about for months to come! Vicky was really able to bring an under-the-radar wine region to life through her storytelling and fostering group discussions, and she did an incredible job bringing together a diverse group of people around a table to learn, laugh and enjoy each other’s company. It was definitely the highlight of my time in Amsterdam!” ~ Lauren Talboom
“This was a fabulous afternoon. Vicky is extremely knowledgeable as well as being highly entertaining. She generated really interesting discussions about both the Dutch wine and the accompanying cheese, making it both fun and informative. Also the wine and cheese choices were delicious.” ~ Laura Honickberg
