Privacy policy
What information do we collect and why?
We collect a small amount of information from you when you use this site. The purpose of this data collection varies:
- Location – in order to give you restaurant recommendations based on your location, we ask you if you are willing to share your location (according to the GDPR, this is “legitimate interest”). In this case, express consent is asked periodically on every device you use.
- Favourites – in order for you to save your favourite restaurants on our restaurant finder, we store information about which restaurants you’ve “favourited” on your device (according to the GDPR, this is “legitimate interest”). We therefore track your IP address, but this is not traceable to any personally identifiable information.
- Shop – if you buy a product from our shop, we ask for your name and address in order to ship the product(s) you order. We also ask for your phone number and email address in case we have questions about your order. We do not use this data for any other purposes (according to the GDPR, this is a “legal basis”).
Do we use cookies?
Like most websites, we use cookies to enhance your experience, gather general visitor information, and track visits to our website. Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your Web browser (if you allow) that enables the site’s or service provider’s systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information.
We use cookies to compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interaction so that we can offer better site experiences and tools in the future. We may contract third-party service providers to assist us in better understanding of our site visitors (e.g. Google Analytics, Facebook). These service providers are not permitted to use the information collected on our behalf except to help us conduct and improve our business.
Do we use pixels?
Yes. Third parties, including Facebook, may use cookies, web beacons, and other storage technologies to collect or receive information from our websites and elsewhere on the internet and use that information to provide measurement services and target ads. You can find more information about opting out of the collection and use of information for ad targeting here: www.aboutads.info/choices and www.youronlinechoices.eu.
Do we disclose any information to outside parties?
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personally identifiable information. This does not include trusted third parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or servicing you, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may also release your information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others’ rights, property or safety. However, non-personally identifiable visitor information may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses.

Some of our advertisers occasionally serve you cookies as well. We do not have control over cookies placed by advertisers. These vendors may use cookies, web beacons, or similar technologies to serve you advertisements tailored to interests you have shown by browsing on this and other sites you have visited, to determine whether you have seen a particular advertisement before and to avoid sending you duplicate advertisements. In doing so, these vendors may collect non-personal data such as your browser type, your operating system, Web pages visited, time of visits, content viewed, ads viewed, and other clickstream data. The use of cookies, web beacons, or similar technologies by these advertising service vendors is subject to their own privacy policies, not ours, and Service Provider disclaims all liability in connection therewith.

Links to other websites
Our website may contain links to other websites of interest. However, once you have used these links to leave our site, you should note that we do not have any control over that other website. Disclosure of affiliate links and sponsored content
We always aim to provide unbiased editorial created by our food writers. We also need to pay our people and website costs so we make money in a number of ways. Through a service called Skimlinks, we sometimes use affiliate links to products and services on retailer sites for which we can receive compensation if you click on those links or make purchases through them. For more information about Skimlinks, please visit skimlinks.com
From time to time we also publish advertorials (paid-for editorial content) and sponsored content on the site. When this is the case the content is clearly marked as sponsored or promoted, so you’ll always know which content is editorial and which is not.
Your consent
By consenting to this privacy policy you are giving us permission to process your personal data specifically for the purposes identified. Consent is required for Amsterdam Foodie to process both types of personal data, but it must be explicitly given. If we ask you for sensitive personal data, we will always tell you why and how the information will be used.
