An Oenophile’s Guide to Wine Festivals in Amsterdam

While Amsterdam might not be a winemaking capital, its wine-drinking culture has flourished in recent years – thanks in part to the city’s vibrant festival scene. From festivals in the forest to natty wine fairs and elegant evenings in museum gardens, Amsterdam’s wine scene grows more dynamic each year. Whether you’re a professional oenophile or just someone who enjoys a bit of day drinking, here’s your guide to the best wine festivals (and a few noteworthy events) taking place across the city.

Amsterdam Wine Festival

Held twice a year, the Amsterdam Wine Festival is the city’s most prominent wine event, celebrating the harvest seasons of both the Southern Hemisphere (in March) and the Northern Hemisphere (in September). The festival combines hundreds of carefully selected wines with exclusive masterclasses, opportunities to meet the winemakers, live musical performances and gourmet food stalls for the perfect pairing. This year, the festival organisers seek to tell the stories behind the wine: each bottle’s origins, craftsmanship and culture.

  • Spring edition: 26-29 March 2026 at Kromhouthal
  • Autumn edition: TBC (in 2025, it was in September at Amstelpark)

Fête du Champagne & Vins

During the Pinkster (Pentecost) weekend, Rembrandtpark is transformed into a French-inspired setting for Fête du Champagne & Vins. The festival centres on champagne and French wines, with more than 100 different bottles available to taste. Alongside the wine, visitors can expect classic French fare such as oysters and fine cheeses, plus live music, pétanque and sabrage demonstrations. The atmosphere is convivial and distinctly Francophile — a celebration of “À Votre Santé” (to your health) in the heart of Amsterdam.

Bacchus Wijnfestival

Set in the verdant forest of Amsterdamse Bos, Bacchus Wijnfestival offers a more relaxed, al fresco alternative to indoor wine fairs. The focus here is on boutique wine importers and natural-leaning selections, with over a dozen wine bars pouring by the glass or bottle. A strong culinary lineup from the city’s chefs and food trucks makes this one of the most enjoyable ways to spend a summer weekend. Expect a festival-style atmosphere with music, deck chairs and dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves.

  • When: The 2026 edition of Bacchus is slated to take place over three weekends in June:
    • 5, 6 and 7 June 2026
    • 12, 13 and 14 June 2026
    • 19, 20 and 21 June 2026
  • Where: Amsterdamse Bos

Natural Wine Festival A’dam

Now the largest natural wine event in the Netherlands, the Natural Wine Festival A’dam is a must for anyone passionate about low-intervention wines. The annual fair gathers dozens of winemakers from across Europe, each pouring wines made without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or excessive sulphites. Alongside the tastings, visitors can attend workshops, shop at a mini-market, or enjoy food pairings created by local chefs. It’s an excellent opportunity to meet the people behind the bottles and deepen your knowledge of natural wine.

Wines in the Garden – H’ART Museum

For something a little different, Wines in the Garden offers an elegant escape in the heart of the city. Set in the tranquil courtyard of the H’ART Museum, this summer event features curated wine selections and live jazz performances. While not a festival in the traditional sense, it’s an ideal setting to enjoy a glass of wine in a refined, cultural atmosphere.

  • When: Select summer evenings (check museum agenda)
  • Where: H’ART Museum (formerly Hermitage Amsterdam)

Beaujolais Nouveau Day

Not a formal festival, but a beloved annual tradition among wine lovers, Beaujolais Nouveau Day marks the release of the new season’s Gamay from the French wine region of Beaujolais. Bars across Amsterdam mark the occasion by serving the first bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau, a fruity, youthful red wine that’s made to be drunk immediately after harvest. Look out for tastings and celebrations at spots like GlouGlou, Lottie’s at The Hoxton and Petit Caron. It’s a festive and social way to toast the end of the harvest season.

  • When: Third Thursday in November (in 2026, this is 19 November)
  • Where: Various wine bars across Amsterdam
