Ha ha, battering and frying are indeed generally a Good Plan (especially when in Scotland apparently ;-))! The chicken and salsify pie sounds like a chicken and Jerusalem artichoke pie I made once... do you have a recipe link for it?

I made a chicken and salsify pie once that was pretty good. I thnk it had nutmeg as a flavoring and a cream-thickened sauce.

This place is very good and I've been eating there since it opened, and also a little before as I know the owner. The ingredients are top notch and well sourced.

I think the pizza they make here is a Roman pizza as it has a thinner base than the Neapolitan pizzas I've had while in Italy.

Nice to see a fresh new food site for Amsterdam...

Ahhh the gorgeous Mont d'Or... and possibly cheesier and stinkier since Portes du Soleil is much lower than Val Thorens and therefore considerably warmer!

ha! just brought a couple of mont d'ors and saucissons back from savoie myself ;)
(my stuff was bought near les gets (les portes du soleil), on the other side of the alps, but it is as cheesy and stinky as yours, I should imagine.)

The arancini are very yummy... and I love ravioli with sage butter too. Hard luck about the waiter; try a Thursday evening ;-)

Really enjoy your blog, and really enjoyed lunch yesterday at Pekelhaaring! Also loved the arancini, and had a sinfully yummy pumpkin ravioli with sage butter (a bit too heavy on the butter, perhaps, but delicious nonetheless). We're definitely going back. Oh, and as a gay man, I was disappointed that the hot waiter was apparently not on duty yesterday :-). The service, though, was also fantastic!
