Sweden, and not a meatball in sight

My absence over the past two weeks has been due to my first holiday to Scandinavia. While Sweden may conjure up images of hours spent in the check-out queues at Ikea and cheap meatballs consumed to the tune of screaming children, my experience was one of unbelievably friendly (and generally hammered) people, cold snowy weather (ideal for skiing, less ideal for sunbathing) and a diet of herring, reindeer, mashed potato and lingonberries. I still don’t quite know what the latter translate as, but the ubiquitous lingonberries are like sour redcurrants generally soaked in a sweet syrup.

Ever a foodie (even – or possibly more so – when skiing), I took some photos of the regional specialities we enjoyed…

Restaurant of the month!
