A foodie’s Christmas list

As the festive season gets underway, foodies every where rejoice. Dinners out abound, and the company even pays for some of them! Plus there’s the prospect of gastronomic gifts…

Here’s what I’ve got on my wish list:

  • Given my obsession with North Africa, it’s a wonder I don’t own a tagine. For those less obsessed, the name ‘tagine’ actually applies to the pottery cooking dish, not to its contents. I’m hoping mine will be adorned with Moroccan design, lending a little more African ambience to my flat.
  • Tagine

  • Jamie Oliver has long been talking about Gennaro Contaldo. It strikes me that not only do I not own one of his books, but I’m not even in possession of an Italian cookbook full stop. Anyone who writes books called things like ‘Passione’ has to have a place on my shelf.

  • In a previous blog, I made a sausage and spinach pie, and was woefully disappointed by the quality of the ready-made pastry. It seems I have to do it myself. But not without the help of a blender… I hope.
  • Rather pleased with my ‘second-life’ dining table (which was an Amazonian building before it became my table) and my Moroccan coffee ‘platter’ à la Nomads, a set of coasters seems sensible and stress-reducing.
  • In case you hadn’t noticed, AA Gill is my gastronomic guru. His new book, ‘Table Talk’, is just out.

this list is for sure a keeper for me. Now I’ll always know what the perfect present for you is. I really can’t believe you have no tagine…really?

xx

Thanks for the Tagine for Xmas Vicky. We had a delicious lunch today based on this recipe: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/moroccanlambtagine_6696.shtml

It had a rich strong taste despite a lack of some spices and the large variety of dried fruit.
